Rosy Aburto McDonough | Director

Rosy Aburto McDonough has been a business consultant and mentor throughout her professional career. McDonough has extensive experience as an independent consultant for the Colorado SBDC office in the Disaster Recovery, Connect2DOT, and general financial consulting programs state-wide. She is also an affiliate faculty at Regis University Dual Language Program, where she teachers strategic management, business sustainability, and accounting. She is the former Associate Director of the Denver Metro SBDC and lead finance consultant and trainer in the areas of strategic management and operations, financial analysis and funding sources, personal and business credit, and business development. She facilitated Leading Edge Programs, financial literacy, QuickBooks, and principles of accounting courses for various SBDC’s throughout the state. 

Rosy achieved her bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science (Applied Mathematics) at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. Her graduating dissertation was Risk Management. Rosy completed an MBA with emphasis in Finance and International Business at the University of Colorado at Denver. She has entrepreneurial spirit and as a result has owned several businesses throughout her life. Her latest initiative, a credit reporting agency serving the mortgage lending and property management industries nation-wide in the U.S., and various Latin American markets. Her banking experience includes community development, specialty/minority markets, corporate relations, credit analysis, lending, and business banking. 

Rosy was born and raised in Mexico providing her with a deep sense of biculturalism. She spends most of her free time with her three girls and husband. Her home is a tri-lingual and culturally diverse household with special interest in learning languages and diverse Chinese and Latin cultures and traditions.

Carra Kelly | Program Manager

Carra Kelly has worked in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors, in addition to the public education system. Upon graduating from the University of South Carolina with a dual degree in Marketing and Entrepreneurial Management, Carra pursued her dream of directly helping to empower community members, and moved to Denver to serve with Americorps. She then completed an 11-month MBA at the University of Colorado Denver.

Most recently, she has helped further the mission of several offices under Governor John Hickenlooper. Throughout her experience in the Governor's Office, she has gained a deep respect for the drive, teamwork, and genuine passion of public service employees. Joining the Minority Business Office has provided the opportunity for Carra to leverage her graduate business education and passion for local-level governance and administration to empower female, minority, and veteran small business owners in Colorado.

Carra is bilingual in English and Spanish, and enjoys using her language skills to connect with MBO community members, as well as her ESL students she volunteer teaches each week.

Talia Bond, Business Consultant

Talia Bond, an expert in business, marketing and translations, is a business consultant for the MBO. Prior to working for the MBO, Talia worked as an operations manager for Iron Mountain Inc. and other Fortune 500 companies in leadership positions where she successfully developed her employees. 

Talia is a recipient of multiple corporate awards that recognized her performance in operations, sales, leadership and quality. While working and being a mother of two, Talia got her MBA and certification as a professional translator. Her passion is to help her community and does that by volunteering with the City and County of Denver as a board member of the Spanish Language Voting Advisory Board (ACCESO). Talia also teaches business and marketing at Regis University in the Dual Language Program.

Talia is the owner of TPB Professional LLC and her company is certified as M/WBE, DBE, EBE and SBE. She offers translations solutions and business/marketing consulting services. She is known as a team player and an energetic, engaging and driven leader. One of her favorite hobbies is to hike the Manitou Incline in Colorado Springs.

Andra Hargrave | Business Consultant

Andra L. Hargrave is a military service disabled veteran who served in both the U.S. Army and the Minnesota Army National Guard.  He has over 20 years of state and federal business development expertise and is helping businesses with state and federal certifications through the MBO.

His expertise includes serving as the Director of Certification for the Rocky Mountain Minority Supplier Development Council, the Federal Procurement Representative for Colorado U.S. Department of Transportation Small Business Resource Center, a former federal procurement consultant for North Dakota State SBDC Lead Center, North Dakota Center for Innovation as well representing several individual centers including Boulder, Pueblo, Colorado Springs, Grand Forks, Devils Lake, Grafton and many others. Andra is a former Denver SBDC Consultant of the Year, Colorado SBDC Consultant of the Year and has helped the Colorado based companies secure in exceed over $47 million in state, federal and corporate awarded contracts.

Andra is the Colorado SBDC Veterans’ Representative and also serves on the Colorado Department Transportation’s Connect2DOT program and works with the Colorado SBA Veteran’s Boots2Business program. He is a registered procurement analyst and his knowledge of federal set-asides, certification, and acquisition strategies.

Veronica Vera-Totten | Business Consultant

Veronica Vera-Totten is a new addition to the MBO team and is the owner of Open Access Consulting, a firm that assists and supports business entrepreneurs. 

Veronica has two years of experience as a Cooperative Business Developer and thirteen years of experience in labor and community organizing in Metro Denver. While working with cooperatives, Veronica focused on developing cooperatives in the childcare and adult home care industries, which included establishing the business from start-up to launch, and providing ongoing operational support.  During her time with the labor union, Veronica served as the Property Services Director, overseeing 3,200 union members, and as Chief of staff, overseeing two divisions and all external organizing within SEIU Local 105. While working in the labor movement she has also worked with the African and Latino immigrant communities. Veronica left SEIU Local 105 to lead education reform work in Southwest Denver as a Director at Padres & Jóvenes Unidos with mostly Latino immigrant families. She has also served on the boards of Jobs with Justice, Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition and Rights for All People.

Veronica has a degree in Communications and is bilingual in Spanish and English. She believes in social economic justice and is passionate about improving minority business opportunities. She enjoys working with people of different cultures and learning from them.
